Wordlight for Google Docs
A free Google Docs add-on that highlights the words and phrases you choose, each list in its own colour, and counts how often each one appears.
What writers use it for
- Spot overused and filler words: very, really, just, actually
- Track character names, places or key terms across a long draft
- Check that required terms appear in an essay, report or contract
- Find sentences that run longer than a word limit you set
How to use it
- Open Extensions → Wordlight → Open Wordlight.
- Type words or phrases into a list, one per line, and pick a colour. Add up to 12 lists.
- Click Highlight. Click a word in the results to jump to each place it appears.
Your own highlights are safe: Wordlight never paints over them, and Clear removes only its own colours.
Used Writer’s Highlighter? Wordlight does the same job and works with Google’s current Apps Script runtime.

Wordlight can only see and edit the document you open it in. It has no server and sends your text nowhere. See the privacy policy.
